About

A little history. A journey through time.

Eraly.org is an independent edition of the history guessing game. Read a moment from the past, choose a year and watch your traveller cross six eras. The daily challenge takes seven guesses; Infinite mode keeps the journey going whenever you want another round.

Seven kinds of history

The collection contains 350 independently written questions, divided into 50 daily sets. Every set mixes arts and literature, culture and sport, people and society, places and exploration, science and space, technology, and world history. You might date a scientific first in one round and a landmark book in the next.

The daily set changes at midnight on your device. Everyone playing the same puzzle number receives the same seven moments. The collection currently rotates after 50 days. Infinite draws from the wider bank, leaves out today's daily questions and prioritises moments you have not played on this browser.

Six eras, one traveller

Your score carries a ponytailed traveller from the ancient world through medieval, Renaissance, industrial, modern and digital landscapes. Look for a camel caravan, a passing train or a maglev as you move forward. Each era has its own original musical theme, and music and sound effects have separate controls.

The character, outfits, scenery, sound effects, music and site images in this edition are original work, drawn or synthesised by code. The two pixel typefaces are self-hosted open-source fonts.

Made for a short daily break

You have 25 seconds for each answer. An exact year earns 100 points, with smaller rewards for nearby guesses. Older events have wider scoring bands. Seven exact answers make a perfect 700. The rules and scoring guide includes examples.

Daily play and Infinite are free, with no account or download. Your current journey, results and Wardrobe are saved in the browser you use. Keeping that browser's site data preserves your progress; another device starts with its own saves.

Corrections and contact
